BYD has launched its plug-in hybrid SUVs, the Sealion 5 (Sealion 05) and Sealion 8 (Tang L), in Australia—not merely with different tires, but with suspension tuning specifically calibrated for local road conditions. The Australian team reported that the original factory settings were “too soft and too bouncy,” prompting BYD to adopt a stiffer, more Europe-oriented suspension setup. The company emphasized that this localization effort does not involve a complete redesign but rather adjustments and validation based on existing platforms. Currently, BYD Australia employs five full-time engineers who work closely with headquarters to continuously refine vehicle performance. The Sealion 8, BYD’s first seven-seat SUV, features the fifth-generation DM hybrid system. The all-wheel-drive variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and comes standard with DiSus-C intelligent suspension. BYD stated that the current tuning is only the starting point, with further iterations planned based on real-world testing.
