BMW recently announced it will discontinue the Personal Pilot L3-level driver assistance system in the updated 7 Series model launching this April. A company spokesperson told German media that the decision was primarily due to insufficient market demand and limited tangible benefits for customers. The system, first introduced in July 2023 with an optional price of €6,000 (approximately RMB 49,000), could only be activated under strict regulatory constraints—specifically on highways, at speeds below 60 km/h, and when dense traffic was present ahead. Moreover, it did not support lane changes, severely limiting its usability to essentially just heavy traffic scenarios. Notably, Mercedes-Benz has also recently ceased offering a similar traffic jam assist feature on its S-Class and EQS models, stating it will now focus on developing driver assistance systems that deliver greater value and enhanced comfort.
