Recently, Stevens Creek Chevrolet, a dealership in San Jose, California, accepted a 2024 Tesla Model S as a trade-in toward the purchase of a Corvette. Salesperson SilveradoSam shared footage of the high-end Model S Plaid on TikTok, highlighting features such as all-wheel drive, ventilated and heated seats, a heated steering wheel, Drag Strip mode, Autopilot, and the Grok AI assistant. Although it’s an electric vehicle (EV), traditional dealerships commonly accept trade-ins of any brand, which they can later sell at retail or auction. Data shows that used EV sales surged by over 60% year-over-year by the end of 2024, matching the turnover rate of gasoline-powered vehicles. The Model S Plaid has a starting price of around $90,000, while the Corvette models range from $73,000 to $119,000—the specific variant traded in remains unclear. The incident has sparked heated debate on social media between supporters of electric and internal combustion engine vehicles.
