Lamborghini has announced a strategic shift in its electrification plans, abandoning its previously scheduled development of fully electric vehicles and instead focusing entirely on plug-in hybrid technology. The Lanzador, originally slated for launch in 2029 as an all-electric super GT, will now be developed as a plug-in hybrid. Additionally, the planned all-electric Urus SUV—initially targeted for release before 2030—has been canceled; the next-generation Urus will instead debut in 2029 as a plug-in hybrid. CEO Stephan Winkelmann stated that market demand for fully electric vehicles remains weak in Lamborghini’s core markets, adding that heavy investment in pure EV projects at this stage would be “irresponsible to both shareholders and customers.” Currently, Lamborghini’s entire lineup—including the Urus, Temerario, and Revuelto—already features plug-in hybrid systems. This strategic pivot stands in stark contrast to other ultra-luxury automakers such as Ferrari, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce, which are accelerating their transitions toward fully electric vehicles.
