After discontinuing models such as the Fiesta, Focus, and Mondeo, Ford has officially announced its return to the traditional passenger car market, with a strategic focus on Europe. CEO Jim Farley confirmed during an earnings call that a new passenger vehicle program is already underway, aiming to restore profitability and enhance dealer earnings. Ford is collaborating with Renault to develop two new vehicles based on Renault’s AmpR electric platform: one will be the all-electric successor to the Fiesta, and the other is expected to be an all-electric crossover, potentially the Puma Gen-E. Additionally, Ford plans to launch multiple hybrid and all-electric models—some co-developed with partners—with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027. To lead this initiative, Ford has appointed Christian Wingerter to head its passenger car business and has established a new management structure to fully relaunch its European passenger vehicle strategy.
