Nissan plans to launch an all-new body-on-frame Pathfinder alongside the current unibody version, selling both models simultaneously. The new model will feature a boxier, more rugged design, be positioned more toward off-road capability, carry the Pro4X badge, and be offered initially with a gasoline engine followed later by a hybrid variant. It will share its platform and approximately 70% of its components with the soon-to-be-revived Xterra and is expected to enter production as early as 2029 at Nissan’s Mississippi plant. Despite the high degree of shared technology, Nissan aims to differentiate the two models in the market, positioning the new Pathfinder as the premium option priced above the current model (which starts at $41,395 for the 2026 model year). However, given that the Xterra also targets the rugged SUV segment, questions remain about how Nissan will avoid internal competition between the two vehicles.
