On February 27, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, announced during his first livestream session after the Chinese New Year that Xiaomi Auto will independently develop its own battery packs and has already built a highly automated, high-yield battery pack factory. Lei emphasized that the "three electric" technologies—particularly batteries—are critical to the success of new energy vehicles. He revealed that Xiaomi established a dedicated battery R&D team as early as five years ago when it first decided to enter the automotive industry, deeply engaging in the design and manufacturing of battery packs. Through in-house development, Xiaomi can not only better control battery quality and safety but also enhance vehicle range and charging efficiency. Additionally, Xiaomi aims to leverage its advanced battery manufacturing capabilities across the entire supply chain, driving upgrades in the ecosystem and positioning the new factory as an industry benchmark.
