Maserati’s global sales in 2025 plummeted to just 11,127 units—a roughly 58% decline from 2023—marking an eight-year low and falling far short of its peak of approximately 49,000 units in 2017. The sharp sales drop stems primarily from weak demand for the Grecale model, U.S. tariff impacts, cooling demand in China’s luxury car market, and a significantly scaled-back product lineup: the Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans were discontinued in 2023, and the Levante SUV was phased out in 2024. Additionally, Ferrari’s discontinuation of V8 engine supplies and Maserati’s earlier adoption of four-cylinder engines have eroded the brand’s appeal. Currently, Maserati has switched to a lower-output 3.0-liter V6 Nettuno engine and canceled its all-electric MC20 project. Looking ahead, the brand plans to co-develop new models with Alfa Romeo, targeting a next-generation Levante launch in 2027 and a new Quattroporte in 2028. Former Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares pointed out that the core issue lies in failed brand marketing and unclear positioning, stressing the urgent need to rebuild Maserati’s brand image and communication strategy.
