Despite General Motors implementing new cybersecurity measures on the C8 Corvette ZR1 to restrict modifications, tuning company HP Tuners has successfully cracked the Bosch-supplied Engine Control Module (ECM). Using a $1,499 ECU upgrade package, the ZR1 now delivers 1,180 horsepower and 1,094 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels—significantly surpassing the factory-rated 1,064 horsepower—while retaining the stock thermal management systems and component safeguards. According to Matt Sanford of HP Tuners, power output could increase by an additional 25% if race fuel is used and the factory-imposed safety limits are removed. He also noted that calibrating this ECM is considerably more challenging than on other GM vehicles. This breakthrough demonstrates that even with enhanced anti-theft and anti-tampering mechanisms, the high-performance aftermarket continues to rapidly find ways around such restrictions.
