Recently, a Lynk & Co Z20 owner was driving on an unlit highway when the vehicle’s infotainment system misinterpreted the voice command “turn off all reading lights” as “turn off all vehicle lights,” causing the headlights to unexpectedly shut off. This plunged the car into darkness and led to an accident. Lynk & Co has issued an apology for the incident and swiftly implemented a system update. The issue highlighted flaws in the vehicle’s voice recognition, semantic understanding, and safety control logic—critical lighting functions should not be disabled by ambiguous voice commands. The Z20 employs a centralized electronic architecture, which enhances functional integration but initially failed to adequately isolate permissions for safety-critical operations. The vulnerability has now been patched to prevent similar risks from recurring.
