Recently, a video showing smoke emanating from a Land Rover steering wheel has gone viral on social media. In the clip, white smoke continuously rises from a small hole in the steering wheel of a Range Rover undergoing repairs. While the scene appears bizarre, it is actually caused by a malfunction in the heated steering wheel system. Modern luxury vehicles often embed heating elements and wiring within the steering wheel; if a short circuit or overheating occurs, it can produce smoke. Although no open flame was visible, smoke emerging from the part of the car most frequently touched by the driver understandably caused alarm. Netizens joked online, calling it a “scented Land Rover” or saying the heated steering wheel had turned into an “incense burner.” Some commenters also questioned whether the vehicle’s quality matched its premium price tag. It should be noted that although some mistakenly identified the model as a Defender, the heated steering wheel technology is shared across multiple Land Rover models. As of now, there has been no official statement, but such malfunctions are typically attributed to isolated electronic component failures rather than systemic quality issues with the brand.
