The incident exposed risks associated with intelligent systems controlling critical safety functions. Following the event, Lynk & Co issued an over-the-air (OTA) update restricting voice control of headlights while the vehicle is in motion, prompting the industry to re-evaluate the importance of "safety redundancy." In response, national authorities swiftly introduced several new standards: mandating the retention of physical controls and limiting intelligent systems’ authority over critical components. The "Safety Technical Requirements for Automotive Door Handles" will take effect on January 1, 2027, banning concealed door handles entirely. Additionally, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revised standards to prohibit semi-rim steering wheels due to their high operational risk. Other so-called "cutting-edge" features—such as panoramic sunroofs and virtual exterior rearview mirrors—are also undergoing renewed scrutiny over real-world safety concerns. The new policy framework underscores that vehicle intelligence must never come at the expense of safety, urging automakers to refocus on fundamental safety principles.
