A TikTok user, @ttweakerbtch98, recently shared her experience: after her check engine light came on, she visited O’Reilly Auto Parts for a free diagnostic code reading. An employee told her the vehicle “seemed fine and she could drive it home,” but specifically warned, “Don’t get on the highway—it might explode.” Less than eight minutes after leaving the store, her car began shaking violently and broke down, just 20 minutes away from home. Experts note that while a steadily illuminated check engine light typically isn’t an emergency, if accompanied by shaking or loss of power, it’s often related to ignition system issues or engine misfires. O’Reilly’s diagnostic service only reads fault codes and doesn’t interfere with vehicle operation; the underlying problem likely existed before the scan. O’Reilly has not yet responded to the incident.
