Last year, reports surfaced that Dodge had canceled the high-performance electric Charger Banshee (rumored to produce over 900 horsepower), but the situation now appears to be turning around. In a recent interview with Canadian media outlet Driving, Dodge CEO Matt McAlear stated, “The Banshee was never truly dead.” While he stopped short of confirming the model is still under development, he emphasized that following the departure of former Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, the brand has “not changed its original plan,” only adjusting its production mix. Although the entry-level Charger Daytona R/T EV has been axed, the 670-horsepower Daytona Scat Pack EV and internal-combustion models remain on sale. McAlear also revealed that Dodge is reviving its multi-powertrain strategy, which could include a return of the Hellcat engine. Rumors suggest a new Charger Hellcat variant may be in the works, though it might not serve as the ultimate performance flagship. If the 900-horsepower Banshee ultimately reaches production, it would greatly satisfy enthusiasts’ expectations for a high-performance machine.
