Scout Motors, Volkswagen Group's all-electric brand, recently revealed that its first vehicle has received over 160,000 pre-orders, with 87% of customers opting for the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version—far exceeding the company’s expectations. The EREV model features a small internal combustion engine that acts as a generator to recharge the battery while driving, reflecting waning enthusiasm for pure battery-electric vehicles in the U.S. market. Originally slated to begin production in 2027, Scout has delayed deliveries to 2028 due to technical challenges. Targeting the North American market, the brand focuses on electric SUVs and pickup trucks, aiming to help Volkswagen expand its market share in the United States. Additionally, on March 3, two U.S.-based Volkswagen dealers filed a lawsuit against Scout, alleging that its direct-sales model violates existing agreements. Volkswagen has not yet responded to the lawsuit.
