Nissan recently warned the UK government that its Sunderland plant could be forced to close if it is excluded from the European Union’s newly proposed “Made in Europe” production targets. Despite active lobbying by the UK government, the EU’s plan—announced on Wednesday—stipulates that corporate fleet vehicles and small electric cars must be assembled within the EU, effectively excluding automakers like Nissan, Jaguar Land Rover, and Toyota that produce vehicles in the UK for the European market. Nissan emphasized that this policy could severely impact its UK operations and poses a significant threat to the British automotive industry.
