Kia has suspended sales of its high-performance EV6 GT model in the U.S. market. According to the automaker, citing "evolving market conditions," the EV6 GT—originally slated for a 2026 launch—will be delayed indefinitely, with no specific timeline provided for its return. Other EV6 variants produced at Kia’s Georgia plant in the United States remain unaffected. The EV6 GT is manufactured in South Korea and faces a 25% U.S. import tariff on automobiles. Combined with its starting price of $65,275 (including destination fees), this has significantly weakened its competitiveness in the American market. Additionally, the elimination of federal electric vehicle tax credits has contributed to an overall decline in EV sales—EV6 deliveries in the U.S. have already dropped by nearly 60% this year. Industry observers hope the sales suspension is temporary and suggest that Kia consider shifting production of the GT variant to the U.S. to improve its market viability.
