Mr. Li from Heilongjiang Province purchased a four-wheeled electric mobility scooter online for RMB 20,500. The seller advertised that the vehicle was equipped with a 72V 200Ah lithium battery, claiming it could travel at least 100 kilometers on a full charge. However, after receiving the vehicle, Mr. Li found it could only run 30 to 40 kilometers before running out of power, and the odometer displayed inaccurate mileage readings. Upon closer inspection, Mr. Li discovered that the battery’s nameplate was labeled “72V 200-type,” not the advertised “72V 200Ah.” The actual energy capacity of these two specifications differs significantly. He repeatedly contacted the seller to seek redress, but the seller evaded responsibility by citing reasons such as instrument error and improper charging methods. Since the transaction was conducted privately via WeChat, the e-commerce platform could not intervene, and the online store involved has since been shut down. Mr. Li has now filed a complaint with local market regulation authorities, who have launched an investigation into the matter.
