Nissan Motor is in final negotiations with Uber to launch a global ride-hailing service based on autonomous driving technology. The two companies plan to leverage an autonomous driving system co-developed by Nissan and UK-based startup Wayve, aiming to mass-produce vehicles capable of hands-free urban driving by fiscal year 2027. Wayve employs end-to-end AI technology that uses cameras for real-time perception and decision-making, enabling adaptation to complex road conditions. Uber is also an investor in Wayve. Currently, Nissan only offers Level 2 driver assistance systems and is working toward achieving Level 5 full autonomy. This collaboration aims to boost Nissan’s persistently weak sales in key markets and accelerate its transformation into a smarter, more technologically advanced automaker.
