Ford Motor Company has made it clear that the manual transmission version of the Mustang will not be discontinued in the near future. In response to the declining popularity of manual gearboxes, Ford CEO Jim Farley gave a firm reply to Australian media: “You’ll have to pry it from our cold, dead hands—Mustang will never give up the manual transmission.” Currently, the Mustang equipped with the 5.0-liter V8 engine still offers a six-speed manual gearbox, while the 2024 EcoBoost model comes exclusively with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Although manuals can’t match modern automatics in terms of efficiency and acceleration, Ford emphasizes that the driving engagement they provide is irreplaceable. Additionally, Ford continues to offer a seven-speed manual option on its Bronco off-roader, catering to enthusiasts’ demand for pure driving enjoyment.
