Hunan Expressway Group has partnered with BYD to jointly advance the construction of a charging network at highway service areas. Currently, Hunan has installed 2,064 charging parking spaces across 160.5 pairs of service areas, achieving full coverage throughout the province. Leveraging BYD’s megawatt-level flash-charging technology, each charging gun delivers a peak power output of 1,500 kW, enabling vehicles to gain 400 kilometers of range in just five minutes and reach 97% state of charge in nine minutes. These flash chargers are equipped with integrated energy storage systems, allowing deployment without requiring grid upgrades. The two parties will focus their collaboration on equipment selection, operation and maintenance of flash-charging stations, and new energy vehicle leasing and sales, aiming to enhance the travel experience for EV owners. BYD plans to build 18,000 flash-charging stations nationwide this year, including 2,000 located at highway service areas—covering nearly one-third of China’s expressway network—to achieve its goal of “one flash-charging station every 100 kilometers.”
