A Texas woman, Justine Saint Amour, has filed a lawsuit against Tesla seeking over $1 million in damages. Her Cybertruck, operating with the Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature engaged, crashed directly into a barrier on an elevated highway in Houston on August 18, 2025. According to the complaint, the vehicle was supposed to make a right turn but failed to recognize the upcoming fork in the road and instead continued straight, causing the collision. Unusually, the lawsuit specifically targets CEO Elon Musk, alleging that Tesla was negligent "in hiring and retaining Musk as CEO and allowing him to participate in product design." The complaint states that Musk overruled engineers’ recommendations to incorporate radar and lidar, insisting instead on a vision-only approach, which compromised the system’s safety. Additionally, the suit accuses FSD of having design flaws, including inadequate driver monitoring and a failure of the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system. It also criticizes Tesla for misleading marketing by promoting the system under the term “Autopilot.” The case has been filed in Harris County Court and marks another legal challenge focusing on Tesla’s autonomous driving claims and safety practices.
