On March 12, BYD announced it has officially become a core member of the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), granting it a role in shaping global automotive quality management system standards. The IATF—comprising the five major automotive industry associations from Europe and North America, along with leading automakers such as BMW, Volkswagen, and General Motors—has long spearheaded the development of critical standards like IATF 16949, which serves as a key gateway for entry into the global automotive supply chain. Nominated by the U.S.-based Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) and approved by unanimous vote of all IATF members, BYD is the first Chinese new energy vehicle manufacturer to join the organization’s core decision-making body. This milestone not only underscores international recognition of BYD’s quality and technological capabilities but also signifies China’s growing influence in setting global automotive standards, contributing a “Chinese solution” to the era of electrification.
