BMW has officially confirmed that the all-new fifth-generation X5 (codenamed G65) will debut this summer and enter production at the Spartanburg plant starting in August. This new X5 will be BMW’s first model offered with five different powertrain options: gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, all-electric iX5, and a hydrogen fuel cell variant—expected to launch in 2028 and potentially named the iX5 60H xDrive. Due to limited hydrogen refueling infrastructure, the hydrogen version may only be available in select markets. Additionally, a long-wheelbase version tailored for the Chinese market is expected, featuring BMW’s sixth-generation cylindrical battery cells, which will significantly extend the all-electric range of plug-in hybrid models. The high-performance M lineup will also go electric, with future models including the M60e and iX5 M70. BMW has not yet confirmed whether range-extender technology will be adopted.
