At BMW Group's fiscal year 2026 annual meeting, CEO Oliver Zipse revealed that the company has temporarily lowered the development priority of its Level 3 autonomous driving system. Although certain BMW models had previously been equipped with this system, the group decided to pause further advancement because the current technology has not yet reached a commercially viable and profitable level. Zipse emphasized that this does not mean BMW is abandoning advanced autonomous driving technology; the company will continue closely monitoring industry trends and will swiftly restart and accelerate related R&D efforts as soon as a feasible commercial model emerges.
