Former Alfa Romeo designer Juan Manuel Diaz recently shared on Instagram sketches of five never-produced Alfa Romeo concept cars, including a new Duetto roadster based on the Mazda MX-5. The project was originally slated for a 2013 launch in collaboration with Mazda but was ultimately produced by Fiat as the 124 Spider, while Alfa Romeo shifted its focus to developing the Giulia and Stelvio. Diaz also revealed a Duetto proposal based on the 8C platform, the Alfona—a four-door coupe from 2006 built on the Maserati Quattroporte platform—an MiTo high-performance crossover hatchback codenamed "955," and a near-production-ready MiTo convertible that was canceled by then-FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne. These designs shed light on an alternative product direction Alfa Romeo might have taken.
