Ford CEO Jim Farley stated that the company is doubling down on affordable, high-value electric vehicles and has exited the premium EV segment. He emphasized that the true drivers of EV adoption are product competitiveness and affordability, noting that the used-car market offers a clearer reflection of genuine consumer demand. Currently, used EVs are highly popular in the U.S., and consumer interest in hybrid models exceeds that in battery-electric vehicles. Based on a reassessment of U.S. market demand, Ford has halted development of the all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup and is now prioritizing hybrid versions of its F-Series trucks. The company also plans to introduce a range-extended version of the Lightning as a replacement. Farley pointed out that markets worldwide—including China, Europe, and Australia—are all showing a clear shift toward low-cost, commuter-focused electric vehicles, validating Ford’s strategic pivot.
