Tesla has confirmed that production of the Model S and Model X will cease by the second quarter of 2024, with only a few hundred units remaining in inventory. These two models were previously manufactured at Tesla’s Fremont factory in California, and with their discontinuation, the production line will no longer be used for vehicle manufacturing. According to Tesla’s Q1 2024 earnings report, the line will undergo conversion in Q2 to establish the company’s first Optimus humanoid robot factory, with a designed annual capacity of 1 million units. Additionally, Tesla plans to build a second-generation Optimus production line at its Texas Gigafactory, targeting an annual capacity of up to 10 million units.
