Leapmotor and Stellantis are exploring the possibility of jointly developing a new vehicle platform. Currently, Stellantis holds approximately a 20% stake in Leapmotor and controls 51% of Leapmotor International, a joint venture responsible for Leapmotor’s global operations. Leapmotor International oversees the rollout of Leapmotor vehicles into international markets, including the UK, with sales facilitated through Stellantis’ dealer network. However, at this stage, these models have no direct technical linkage to vehicles from Stellantis’ own brands. The two companies have already initiated a certain level of technical collaboration, with European engineers participating in the development of Leapmotor models tailored for international markets. The partnership aims to combine Leapmotor’s strengths in cost control and product innovation with Stellantis’ global infrastructure—including its dealer network, IT systems, and parts distribution network. Although each company currently maintains its own independent vehicle platforms, their strategic cooperation could involve platform sharing and component commonality. Approximately 65% of Leapmotor’s components are produced in-house, raising the possibility that Stellantis might adopt Leapmotor-sourced parts for its own platforms in the future. Additionally, concepts such as co-developing a new platform or even having Stellantis vehicles contract-manufactured at Leapmotor’s factories are still under exploration.
