Data released by the National Energy Administration on May 6 shows that during the May Day holiday in 2024 (May 1–5), nationwide expressway charging facilities recorded a total of 3.9784 million charging sessions, with a total electricity consumption of 949.314 million kilowatt-hours. The average daily charging volume reached 189.863 million kilowatt-hours—2.34 times higher than on regular days and up 52.8% year-on-year. The Ministry of Transport estimates that the daily average traffic volume of new energy vehicles (NEVs) during the holiday was approximately 15.4 million vehicles, an increase of 33% compared to the same period last year. To manage the peak charging demand, local authorities, under the guidance of the National Energy Administration, proactively formulated support plans, enhanced staffing and resource allocation, and leveraged digital platforms to strengthen operational monitoring, effectively meeting the substantial charging needs generated by large-scale NEV travel during the holiday.
