Volkswagen is developing a high-performance "Clubsport" variant of the ID Polo GTI, boosting its maximum output to 282 horsepower—up from the previously rumored 223 hp. The new model will feature a fully mechanical limited-slip differential, replacing the BorgWarner active differential used in the current version. Florian Umbach, Head of Volkswagen Dynamics, stated that the car is designed to deliver a classic driving experience from the inside out, with enhanced front-axle torque capacity to unlock greater performance potential. Additionally, the vehicle will be equipped with a "virtual gearshift" system that uses motor control and synchronized sound effects to simulate the gear-shifting feel of a traditional internal combustion engine car at the software level. The digital instrument cluster will support customizable themes, including one mimicking the Golf Mk1 design, while also replicating the power delivery characteristics of classic GTI models. The Clubsport version will also receive a more focused chassis setup, ride lower than the standard ID Polo GTI, and feature a more aggressive exterior design.
