On June 22, CATL and Octopus Energy announced the establishment of a joint venture to jointly build a battery-swapping network for heavy-duty trucks across Europe. CATL will introduce its Qiji battery-swap technology to Europe, enhancing refueling efficiency for heavy-duty trucks and accelerating the electrification of road freight transport. According to the plan, the partners will launch their first pilot battery-swap stations in the UK by 2027, initially covering major highway corridors and key logistics ports. By 2035, the network will expand to over 30 stations, extending operations into Scotland and Wales to create a nationwide battery-swap infrastructure spanning the UK’s core transport routes. The network will provide energy services to UK-based logistics companies, port authorities, retailers, and private fleets, with plans to integrate swap stations directly into large distribution centers to support urban delivery scenarios.
