Li Auto's CTO, Xie Yan, recently revealed that the company's self-developed chip project, though initiated later than those of some other new-energy vehicle startups, has achieved the fastest time-to-market after four years of development. He emphasized that there is a significant difference in difficulty between simply manufacturing chips and producing chips with leading-edge performance. Li Auto’s primary concern, he said, is ensuring the chips are sufficiently advanced to avoid wasted investment due to technological obsolescence. Xie outlined key criteria for measuring the success of automakers' in-house chip development: whether the chips can be deployed at full scale, rapidly integrated into vehicles while delivering a strong user experience, support the most advanced or next-generation models, and possess the capability for continuous iteration. He further stressed that Li Auto’s chip development is not based on licensed IP but follows a fully independent technical roadmap, making it non-replicable by others.
