Tesla plans to launch the Model Y L in the U.S. market by the end of 2026, with production handled at its Texas Gigafactory. The vehicle is already on sale in markets including China, Australia, and India. It features a body that is approximately 178 mm longer than the standard Model Y and a roof height increased by nearly 51 mm. The Model Y L adopts a 2+2+2 three-row, six-seat layout, with second-row independent "captain’s chairs" designed to enhance legroom and comfort for third-row passengers. This move aims to fill the product gap left by the Model X, which ceased production in spring 2024. Tesla has not yet disclosed specific powertrain configurations for the U.S. version of the Model Y L. However, the initial launch variant is expected to feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, with a single-motor rear-wheel-drive version potentially introduced later. It remains unclear whether a high-performance variant will be offered. In response to related reports, Tesla declined to confirm the details, stating only that it does not comment on rumors or speculation. According to Cox Automotive data, the Model Y was the best-selling all-electric vehicle in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2024, with sales of approximately 78,591 units—accounting for one-third of total U.S. EV sales during the quarter.
