On June 27, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) disclosed that it has closed its preliminary evaluation into side airbag issues affecting 2018–2022 Honda Odyssey models. The investigation followed Honda’s recall announcement on April 9, which addressed a defect in the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU). Specifically, incorrect deployment parameters for side airbags could cause unintended deployment of side curtain and side torso airbags when the vehicle encounters severe impacts—such as driving over potholes, speed bumps, or road debris. As of April 2, 2026, the issue had resulted in 130 warranty claims and 25 injury reports, with no fatalities reported. The recall remedy involves dealers reprogramming or replacing the SRS ECU to correct the airbag deployment threshold parameters. Affected consumers began receiving recall notifications in late May. NHTSA stated that, given Honda’s proactive recall action, the related investigation has been closed.
