Recently, Dr. Muhammad Mufti Mubarok, Chairman of Indonesia’s National Consumer Protection and Trade Standards Agency (BPKN), led a business delegation on a visit to Zotye Auto, where they were received by Han Biwen, Chairman and President of Zotye Auto, along with other senior executives. Through discussions and an on-site tour of the manufacturing facilities, both sides reached preliminary strategic consensus on comprehensive cooperation across the entire new energy vehicle (NEV) industrial chain and agreed to advance preparatory research and planning. During the meeting, the two parties held in-depth consultations on establishing NEV manufacturing operations in Indonesia, covering topics such as overseas plant layout, core technology collaboration, construction of a power battery supply chain, local talent development, and export strategies targeting Southeast Asian markets. The Indonesian side emphasized that while Indonesia possesses abundant nickel resources and significant market potential for NEVs, its domestic vehicle manufacturing ecosystem remains underdeveloped and requires support from international automakers to foster industrial growth. In response to Indonesia’s industrial foundation and resource advantages, Zotye Auto proposed a phased cooperation framework: Phase I would involve rapid production launch via Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) assembly, gradually increasing the localization ratio of components; Phase II envisions building an intelligent factory with annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles, integrating four major processes—stamping, welding, painting, and final assembly—as well as a dedicated power battery production line. The product portfolio would span NEV models for passenger use, logistics, and pickup trucks. Zotye also expressed willingness to transfer its complete R&D, manufacturing, and quality control systems, leverage its global supply chain resources, and explore establishing an integrated local service network encompassing sales, after-sales maintenance, and technical training. The delegation subsequently toured Zotye’s NEV production workshop, prototype assembly lines, and component testing zones, observing the full vehicle manufacturing process and gaining particular insights into cost-effective passenger EVs and urban logistics NEVs tailored for Southeast Asian markets. Both sides affirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination to steadily advance preliminary project preparations and explore further collaboration in lithium battery industries and cross-border trade. It should be noted that only initial communication intentions have been established at this stage; no formal agreements have been signed. Significant uncertainties remain regarding investment scale, construction timelines, and implementation outcomes, and all future developments will be subject to official disclosures.
