On June 30, European startup Amble unveiled its first electric off-roader, the AmbleOne. Inspired by NASA’s lunar rover and designed by a team of former Apple and Audi designers, the vehicle starts at $25,000 (approximately RMB 170,000). Classified as an L7e-category light electric vehicle, the AmbleOne is road-legal on public roads across Europe, offering over 60 miles (about 97 km) of range, a top speed limited to 40 mph (around 64 km/h), and a full charge in five hours using a standard household outlet. Its curb weight is under 450 kg. The vehicle features an open, doorless structure—a design choice driven both by L7e regulatory weight limits and as part of a broader weight-reduction strategy. It extensively uses materials such as aluminum, leather, cotton, and cork. The flat-bottomed windshield pays homage to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, while the dashboard crossbar shares the same diameter as a motorcycle handlebar, enabling easy mounting of standard smartphone holders and other accessories. Amble’s co-founders include Adrien Roose, co-founder of premium e-bike brand Cowboy, and Michael Tropper, founder of creative agency Forpeople, whose clients include InterContinental Hotels Group. The AmbleOne offers multiple configuration options, with fold-flat rear seats; future optional extras will include waterproof canvas covers and a lockable front storage compartment. The company is already developing its second model, the AmbleTwo, slated for launch in 2029. It will feature removable doors, a lower roofline, and a hardtop, positioning it closer to a conventional car and targeting the market for families’ second vehicles. To date, Amble has signed agreements with 12 customers, securing commitments for over 500 units and generating more than €10 million in contracted revenue. Clients include several luxury hotels and resorts.
