Starting July 1, 2024, new energy vehicle owners in Wuhan can sell electricity back to the grid through private charging piles equipped with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality and connected to designated platforms. This policy stems from reforms to the V2G pricing mechanism, enabling vehicle owners to capitalize on peak-valley electricity price differentials by "buying low and selling high." During off-peak hours, the cost of charging is approximately RMB 0.43 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), while the price for selling electricity back to the grid during peak hours approaches RMB 1 per kWh—yielding a net profit of about RMB 0.5 per kWh. Previously, V2G participation was limited to specific public charging stations, requiring owners to travel to designated sites; under the new mechanism, eligible private chargers installed at residential parking spaces can directly participate. This initiative not only provides vehicle owners with additional income but also supports grid load balancing and optimized energy allocation.
