As of the end of June 2024, BYD has built 7,018 ultra-fast charging stations across China, covering 325 cities. The company plans to expand its network to 20,000 ultra-fast charging stations by the end of 2026—18,000 in urban areas and 2,000 at highway service areas—ensuring an average of one ultra-fast charging point every 100 kilometers along expressways. Within cities, coverage standards guarantee a station within 3 kilometers in Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities, within 5 kilometers in Tier-3 and Tier-4 cities, and within 6 kilometers in county-level towns. BYD’s ultra-fast charging stations adopt a “station-within-a-station” model, requiring minimal grid upgrades and only a few parking spaces for deployment. Equipped with energy storage systems to reduce site constraints, these stations can be built faster than conventional charging stations. Each charging pile delivers up to 1,500 kW of power, enabling approximately 400 kilometers of range to be added in just five minutes, with no significant drop in charging efficiency even in low-temperature conditions. Additionally, BYD has partnered with Sinopec to leverage the latter’s nationwide network of over 30,000 gas stations to add ultra-fast charging points, accelerating network expansion. This charging network is open to all new energy vehicles regardless of brand. Currently, BYD is adding hundreds of new stations each month, steadily advancing toward its year-end construction targets and the comprehensive development of a nationwide charging infrastructure network.
