According to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, in May 2024, five Chinese automakers sold a total of 138,400 passenger vehicles across 31 European countries, marking a 65% year-on-year increase. In the same period, six Japanese automakers sold 130,400 vehicles in the same markets, a 3% decline compared to the previous year. This marks the first time Chinese passenger cars have surpassed Japanese brands in monthly market share in Europe. Some analysts note that while Japanese automakers maintain a fuel-efficiency advantage with their hybrid models, their limited lineup of electric vehicles prevents them from benefiting from policy incentives for EVs offered by many European countries. Industry insiders say European consumers typically do not consider Japanese brands when purchasing electric vehicles. Currently, Japanese automakers' presence in the European market continues to wane, while Chinese brands are steadily gaining influence.
