On July 3, Chery Automobile held a groundbreaking ceremony at its Rosslyn plant in South Africa, announcing a comprehensive upgrade of the facility. The plant is expected to commence production by mid-2027 with an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles on a single shift. Originally built in 1963 and formerly owned by Nissan, the Rosslyn plant was acquired by Chery in January 2026 under an agreement with Nissan. Chery has committed to retaining all 692 existing employees and estimates that the upgrade will generate approximately 3,000 additional jobs across the upstream and downstream supply chain. Additionally, Chery has launched a localization initiative in South Africa, aiming to achieve a 40% local content ratio by 2028.
