UK startup Hydrohertz has unveiled a new battery liquid-cooling technology called Dectravalve, capable of reducing the charging time for a 100 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from 30 minutes to just 10 minutes under 350 kW fast charging. Validated by the University of Warwick, the compact system is about the size of a beverage can and costs significantly less than developing an entirely new battery pack. Tests show that batteries equipped with this system maintain peak temperatures below 44.5°C, with a temperature differential of only 2.6°C—substantially outperforming conventional solutions. Additionally, the technology improves in-motion battery efficiency by approximately 10%, equivalent to an extra 30–40 miles of range. Addressing the growing trend toward cell-to-pack (CTP) battery designs, Hydrohertz also proposes a "Rainbow Cooling" approach, using nested, independent cooling loops to achieve more uniform heat dissipation—potentially redefining the EV fast-charging experience.
