On January 24, Yuchai Group officially unveiled the world’s first flywheel range extender technology brand—“Yuchai Flywheel Range Extender System (FRS)”—at its 2026 Global Partner Conference. Departing from the conventional “engine + independent motor” architecture, the FRS features an integrated, rigid coaxial design that directly couples the flywheel with the engine crankshaft, achieving native integration of power generation and propulsion units. The system offers three core advantages: ultra-simple structure (highly integrated and maintenance-free for life), exceptional efficiency (peak power generation efficiency of 4.8 kWh/L and up to 50% fuel savings), and outstanding reliability for profitability (eliminating range anxiety, with payback periods under one year in certain applications). Currently, the FRS covers a power range from 15 kW to 600 kW and has been deployed across nine major sectors, including heavy-duty trucks, mining haulage, buses, and agricultural machinery, capturing over 96% of the new-energy wheel loader market. Additionally, eight new engine models—including the YCS04 and YCK08N—have been launched alongside the FRS and are already integrated into vehicles and equipment from leading brands such as FAW Jiefang, Dongfeng, XCMG, Sany, and Caterpillar.
