To address supply chain risks stemming from geopolitical conflicts and natural disasters, Japanese automakers will share critical semiconductor information with major chipmakers. Approximately 20 chip suppliers—including Renesas Electronics, ROHM Co., and Germany’s Infineon Technologies—are participating in the initiative, covering 80% to 90% of Japanese automakers’ chip requirements. Suppliers will register data such as product specifications, mass production timelines, and manufacturing locations to help automakers quickly identify potential supply disruption risks. To ensure data security, the system will employ blockchain technology to prevent information leaks. The project is jointly spearheaded by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (whose members include Toyota and Honda) and the Japan Automotive Parts Industries Association, with a target completion date of April this year. Once operational, it will be managed by the Center for Automotive and Battery Traceability.
