The UAE is accelerating the commercialization of autonomous driving across the board. Recently, Abu Dhabi officially launched fully driverless commercial operations open to the public, initially covering Yas Island and gradually expanding to other areas of the city, with a target of having 25% of all trips completed by autonomous vehicles by 2040. Meanwhile, Dubai has also taken a critical step forward, issuing its first fully driverless testing permit and inaugurating the emirate’s first integrated autonomous vehicle operations hub. This initiative forms a key part of Dubai’s “Smart City Strategy 2030,” which aims to shift 25% of all transportation to autonomous modes by 2030. The simultaneous progress in both emirates underscores the UAE’s determination to build a future-ready intelligent transportation system.
