Tesla officially launched its driverless Robotaxi service in Austin, Texas this week, operating vehicles without safety drivers. The newly deployed Robotaxi models feature hardware upgrades, including repositioned side turn signals and a new camera-cleaning system on the rear bumper to enhance the reliability of the visual system. This move aligns with Tesla’s recent strategy to shift its Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability entirely to a subscription model—starting February 14, new vehicles will no longer offer the option to purchase FSD outright, and will only support subscription access. Currently, the Robotaxi service in Austin remains in a limited pilot phase, with no expansion plans announced yet.
