Although BMW originally planned to convert its Munich plant into a dedicated electric vehicle production facility by the end of 2027, strong demand for V8 engines in the U.S. market will lead the factory to continue manufacturing key components for V8 and V12 engines—including cylinder heads, crankcases, and crankshafts. A BMW spokesperson stated that U.S. consumer demand for eight-cylinder models is "above average" and is expected to remain robust in the foreseeable future. Consequently, the next-generation X5, the mid-cycle refreshed 7 Series, the X7 launching next year, and the top-trim X6 model debuting in 2028 will all retain V8 powertrain options. Additionally, BMW’s sub-brand ALPINA will offer V8 variants for both the refreshed 7 Series and the second-generation X7. The high-performance version of the 7 Series, potentially bearing the internal code G72, is expected to debut this year and go on sale in 2027.
