According to a recent report by IDC, global battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales will surpass 12.1 million units in 2025, maintaining double-digit year-over-year growth. BYD emerged as the world’s top BEV seller, delivering 2.257 million pure electric vehicles throughout the year—surpassing Tesla, which delivered approximately 1.636 million units—and claiming the global BEV sales crown for the first time. IDC noted that BYD’s lead stems from strong global demand for its entry-level models such as the Dolphin and Atto 3, highlighting its robust competitiveness in the affordable EV segment. This shift marks a pivotal turning point in the global new energy vehicle landscape and reflects differing paces of EV adoption across markets driven by varying strategies and price segments. Earlier, the BBC reported in early January that BYD was poised to top global EV sales in 2025.
