BMW M GmbH has officially confirmed that its first all-electric high-performance sedan, the iM3, will launch in 2027. Built on the new Neue Klasse platform, the vehicle has already entered rigorous real-world environmental testing, with BMW releasing footage of its winter testing in snowy conditions. The iM3 will feature four independently driven electric motors, enabling seamless switching between rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, as well as a front-axle disconnect function. Precise torque vectoring will be managed by the “Heart of Joy” high-performance computing system in coordination with the M Dynamic Control system. The car will be equipped with a battery exceeding 100 kWh, utilizing an 800V high-voltage architecture to support ultra-fast charging and highly efficient regenerative braking. The battery pack is structurally integrated into the chassis to enhance body rigidity. In terms of lightweight construction, the iM3 will debut BMW’s use of natural-fiber composite materials. Additionally, BMW is developing a bespoke “soundscaping” system for the iM3, blending iconic engine sounds from classic M models with tailored electric motor acoustics to create a unique driving atmosphere. Further technical details will be unveiled over the coming year.
