As the inventor of the three-point seatbelt, Volvo has upgraded this critical safety technology once again—67 years later. The new EX60 model features the HuginCore system, which increases the number of available "load-limiting configurations" for seatbelts from the traditional three to eleven, enabling far more precise protection. Developed jointly by Volvo with Google, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm, the system delivers a computational power of 250 trillion operations per second, allowing it to analyze collision types and occupant characteristics in real time and instantly select the optimal belt tension within milliseconds. After locking, the seatbelt can intelligently release a tiny amount of webbing to prevent chest or internal organ injuries, while ensuring the pelvis remains securely anchored and the upper body smoothly leans forward to meet the airbag—effectively reducing secondary injuries. This upgrade focuses on refining control logic rather than altering hardware structure, transforming the seatbelt from a simple restraint into an intelligent, adaptive safety system that balances firmness with flexibility.
